Abramson, Susan Bishop Susan B. Abramson, 68, passed away on August 20, 2008, and was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Clayton High School and Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. In high school, she spent a summer abroad living with a family in Austria through the Experiment in International Living at a time when participation in such programs was fairly uncommon. After graduating from Tufts, Susan was a researcher in immunology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston before marrying Howard Abramson and moving with him to Dallas. They also lived for two years in Kansas City before returning to Dallas. Susan wrote and then published herself two reference books that each became a bestseller in their respective local markets. In Kansas City, she wrote Backdoor Bargains a guide to factory outlets and sample shopping. In Dallas, she wrote Kidding Around the Metroplex, a guide to exploring the Dallas Fort Worth area with children. Susan and the books received significant local coverage from newspaper columnists and local radio and television talk shows. Susan was a co-founder of Compu-Claim Corporation a pioneer in computerized claims adjustment for the insurance industry. The company was later sold to Policy Management Systems Corporation. She was an active board member of the President's Research Council at UT Southwestern helping to promote medical research at the university. She was also an active board member of the Dallas Jewish Coalition for the Homeless, the organization behind the Vogel Alcove Childcare Center for the Homeless. She was a member of the American Jewish Committee and Temple Emanu-El. She is survived by one son, Jonathan Abramson of Dallas, Texas; sister, Nancy Phillips of New York City; niece, Sarah Phillips of Los Angeles; nephew, Michael Phillips of New York. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2008, in the chapel at Temple Emanu-El Mausoleum at Lemmon and Howell streets in Dallas. Rabbi David E. Stern will officiate. Interment will follow at Temple Emanu-El Cemetery.
