Tina was born March 5, 1928, to the late Walter Ernest Ridge and Mary Ency Ridge. She was raised in Asheboro, NC. Tina attended High Point College, where she met Howard Bishop. They married in 1950 and lived one of the greatest love stories of all time, inseparable for more than 65 years, until his passing this past October. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Lou Craven.
Tina and Howard lovingly raised two sons and were “Meme and Dink” to four adoring grandchildren, who loved and admired them both dearly. Tina’s friends and family will always remember her beautiful smile, genuine friendship, quick wit, sense of fashion and the comfort of her home-cooked meals, which were second to none. More than anything, Tina will be remembered as a godly woman who lived her faith and for her kind and gentle demeanor that drew people to her everywhere she went. She never met a stranger.
Tina is survived by her two sons, Jon and Dave “Gunny;” daughters-in-law, Maria Bishop, Bunny Turner and Gayle Kirkpatrick; brother, Jimmy Ridge; sister-in-law, Shirley Ridge; four grandchildren, Erik, Natalie, Patrik and Brianna; several nieces and nephews; and dear family friend, Stephanie Gibson, who treated her like a queen. She was also a proud great grandmother to Rylee, Zoe, Faith and Howie. Her kindness and the steadfast love she had for her family will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed.
The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation to Waltonwood Providence and Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region.
A celebration of Tina’s life will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, March 11, 2016 at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 3307 Rea Rd., Charlotte, NC 28226, with Rev. Robert Austell officiating. The Bishop family will receive friends following the service at the church. Tina will be laid to rest by her beloved husband during a private service at Sharon Memorial Park.
