Edward J. Birt, seventy-nine, 1307 Sixth avenue, Berwick, died early yesterday morning at Berwick Hospital where he had been hospitalized since Thursday.
A lifelong resident of Berwick area, he was born in Berwick, July 24, 1884, son of the late Alfred G. and Elizabeth Ritchie Birt. He was employed by ACF for many years, retiring some time ago.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Deppe; three children, Mrs. Fred Sholes, Bloomsburg R.D.5; Mrs. W. Carlton Snyder, Allentown, and R. Rholand Birt, Berwick; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Lowe, Berwick; two brothers, Clarence, Berwick and Alfred, King of Prussia. A number of nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services will be held from the James L. Hicnkley Funeral Home, Berwick, Tuesday afternoon at two with the Rev. Russell D. Mengle, pastor of United Church of Christ, Berwick, officiating. Burial at Pine Grove Cemetery, Market Street.
