Agnes Barclay
The above named, another old citizen of our community, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Watson, in Scotland township, this county, at 6 o'clock this morning, after a few days' illness of grip and pleuratic complications. She was 90 years, 10 months and 14 days old. Short services will be held at her late home at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, after which the remains will be brought to Macomb where the funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian church at 1:30 p.m. burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
Deceased was born in Sterlingshire, Scotland, March 22, 1808. She grew to womanhood in the land of her berth and when 25 years of age was united in marriage with James Barclay. Her maiden name was Binnie. In 1850, with their family, they came to America, on the 29th of June of that year arrived at "Camp Creek" in what is now Scotland Township, which township has been her home until death.
With hands not afraid of toil she was indeed a helpmeet for her husband, and did her fair share in raising their large family of sons and daughters to be among our most honored and exemplary citizens. She leaves surviving the following well known citizens of our community: John of this city, Robert, Mrs. Agnes Watson, widow of Archibald Watson, deceased; James, Margaret, Wife of Thomas Watson; William and Alexander. All these but the first named are prominent farmers or wives of same living in Scotland township. Andrew Barclay, who died in Scotland a year since, was also a son.
