Lucy Dunaway Bibby, 87, of Springlake, Texas, and formerly of Portales, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at her home.

She was born Sept. 20, 1918, to Emma and William H. Marquis. She grew up in the Arch community east of Portales. On June 2, 1934, she married Herman Wood who preceded her in death. In 1975, she married "Dunnie" Dunaway. She worked for the Portales Public Schools as a cook in the school cafeteria at Steiner Elementary. In 1992, she retired to care for her second husband who died in 1993.

She became a foster grandparent at the Child Development Center at Eastern New Mexico University and was a member of the Roosevelt General Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary. On Sept. 29, 2000, in Clovis, she married Orlan Bibby.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Portales. Family members said she enjoyed the activities of the Portales Senior Citizens, ceramics and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ernest, Joe, Clyde, Terrell, O. E. "Cotton" and George Marquis, daughters, Hermadene Fletcher and Bea Capps; step-daughter, LaVerne Fennell; and her first two husbands.
Survivors include her husband, Orlan Bibby of Springlake, Texas; daughter, June Hampton (and her husband, Roland) of Early, Texas; step-daughter, Kathy West (Mike) of Springlake, Texas; step-son, Ronnie Dunaway of Lubbock; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Rev. Walter Huber will officiate.

Burial will take place in Portales Cemetery.

Mike West, Lexie Fennell, Calvin Fletcher, Billy Capps, Bobby Richey, and Adam Gutierrez will serve as pallbearers.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
