THE OGDEN STANDARD-EXAMINER, FRIDAY EVENING, MARCH 19, 1943 page 6-B

Daniel Beus was born 31 October 1876 at Ogden, Weber, Utah to John Beus and Margaret Justet. He never married. He was a rancher all his life, raising sheep and cattle. He always lived on the home ranch on Raft River, Utah. He was a friend to every one. They all knew they could go to him for help whenever needed. He died at Soda Springs, Idaho the 15th of March 1943. Daniel lived alone, frugally, saving all his money and using it from time to time to buy more land. At the time of his death he owned land in Idaho, Utah and Nevada. One fellow who worked for him for twenty years said Dan was the finest man to work for he could imagine. The story is told that in the early days, when Dan and his father, John, began raising sheep in that country the cattlemen were unhappy about it. Some of them hired a gunslinger to go after Dan, but some friends told him about it and he was prepared. He took a rifle and climbed a tree near his home. As the stranger approached he hailed him, saying "Hold it right there! If you come any closer they'll have to carry you out I know why you're here, and if you want to turn around and leave the country and never come back then do it now, otherwise come ahead." The hired gunslinger left and was not heard from again"

Family recollections of uncle Daniel are that he never married and became a very wealthy man. His inheritances started many families into farms and homes in difficult times.
