Leroy W. Berwager, 74, of Hanover, died Monday, Dec. 17, at The Brethren Home in New Oxford.
He was the husband of Phoebe A. Warner Berwager to whom he was married to for 52 years.
Born in Union Township, Adams County, he was the son of late Edgar W. and Sarah Jones Berwager.
Mr. Berwager retired from the Hanover Shoe Co. in 1979 after working there for 36 years. He was a part-time farmer, specializing in growing potatoes and other truck crops. He was a veteran of World War II, serviving as a private in the army for 10 months.
He was also a member of Calvary Bible Church and Sunday school, active in church work until his recent illness. He also was a member of the Advisor Council of Grace and Truth Evangelistic Association and had been a member of the Christian Business Men Committee of USA since 1958.
He was a former member of Hampstead Youth For Christ and Men-at-Large of the same group, and he also was a member of AARP.
He is survived by three sons, Donald L. Berwager of Hanover, Ned A. Berwager of Fort Washingron, Md., and Gary W. Berwager of Claymount, Del.; a daughter, Patricia Dolgner of Dixon, Ill.; one brother, Richard J. Berwager of the Brethren Home; one sister, Anna Shoemaker of Hanover; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
