Berry,Betty Mabry retired Metro teacher passed away on January 14,2006.She was born September 7,1920,in Beaumont,Texas,to Frank Carlye Mabry and Belle Woods Mabry.She graduated from Kountze High School and Lamar College.While at Lamar she served as correspondent for the Beaumont Journal,and was named one of the beauties of the school.During WWII,she worked for the Mobile Oil Company after completing the Engineering,Science and Management War Training in Patroleum Production Accounting.After the war she was among the first stewardesses to be hired by American Airlines.She began her teaching career at H.G. hill school after receiving a B.S. degree,and later a Master of Arts in Education,and a Master of Library Science from George Peabody College.She taught gifted classes at Percy Priest School,and retired as a Librarian for Julia Green,Burton,and Stokes in 1986.She was a member of Calvary Methodist Church,Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Teachers,Daughters of the American Revolution Cumberland Chapter,and The Women's Club.She is preceded in death by her husband Fred Joel Berry,and is survived by daughters,Beverly O'Banion of Warsaw,N.C.,Linda Berry of Nashville TN.,and a son Stephen Berry of Jacksonville Florida.Grandchildren include Caroline Baugh of Nashville,Laurie Baugh of Wilmington N.C.,Amanda Holmes of Lnng Island N.Y.,and Cashel Berry of Jacksonville Fl.;sister,Rose Alice Trant,of Iola,TX.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 18,2006 at 1 PM at the Calvary Methodist Church with interment to follow at the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 PM and Wednesday 11 AM-1 PM at the church.
