PORTLAND - Eleanor E. Beal, 96, longtime resident of Summit Street, died on April 14, 2015, at the Barron Center in Portland. She was born in Portland, the daughter of Harry and Josephine (Ingalls) Berry. Eleanor graduated from Deering High School and worked at a local bank. She later married Lawrence V. Beal and they began raising a family while living on Summit Street.
She was a former member of North Deering Congregational Church and the Mayflower Society. She was an avid Red Sox fan and a volunteer at Maine Medical Center for many years. Eleanor loved to play cards, especially Bridge, and taught her grandchildren how to play many different card games. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, especially the many cherished visits to the camp on Thomas Pond.
Eleanor loved to travel and travelled extensively throughout the world. She was a strong and independent woman, driving herself around until the age of 92 and living in her home until the age of 96. She enjoyed a rich and full life and made many dear friends along her way.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence V. Beal. She is survived by her son, Richard L. Beal of Litchfield, daughter, Patricia E. Lothrop and her husband Robert F. of Scarborough; eight grandchildren, Rebecca Maiorano and her husband Stanley of South Portland, Amanda Beal and her husband Shawn Saindon of Portland, Andrew Beal of Orlando, Fla., Jarod Colton and partner Robyn of Biddeford, Shauna Herrick and her husband William of Methuen, Mass., James Beal and his wife Lenzi of Bossier, La., Seth Colton and his wife Christina of Simpsonville, S.C., Adam Beal and his wife Jamie of Litchfield. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
