Born in Aline, Oklahoma, to the late Harry Carter Quin and Mary Rebecca Canny Quin, Mary was a graduate of the University of Texas where she met and married George William Berry, thus beginning a loving odyssey of 58 years. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where she served tirelessly as a member of the Altar Guild for many years. Her memory will live on through her exquisite needlepoint at St. Paul's as well as at Camp Allen and Christ Church Cathedral in Houston. She was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Day School Board, McLennan County Medical Alliance, Providence Hospital Auxiliary, Historic Waco Foundation, Earle-Napier-Kinard House Board, Waco Symphony Association, Waco Cotton Palace and the Current Event Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1996; grandson, Danny Machac; and brother, Harry Quin.
Survivors include her son, George William Berry, Jr. and wife, Patsy; daughter, Carolyn Berry Matteson; grandchildren: Charles Reed Berry and wife, Christy, of Austin, Brady Lindsay Berry, of Austin, Marc Machac and wife, Becky, of West, Nicole Johnson and husband, Scott, of China Spring, Tonya Sullivan Knauth and husband, Rick, of Houston and her namesake, Mary Quin Matteson, of Austin; great-grandchildren: Cleo Emily Berry, Cayden and Makenzie Johnson, Lane and Lance Machac, and Christopher Michael Knauth and Katherine Sullivan Knauth; sisters-in-law: Betsy Quin, of Edinburg, Dorothy Berry, of Houston, Ruth McCord and husband, Jim, of Leola, Pennsylvania, and Jan Morris and husband, George, of Lubbock; nephews, Ken and Christopher Quin; nieces: Julia Morris-Meyers, Amy Rangel, Mike McCord, Ann Farrar, and Nancy McCord; and special friend, Bertha Steward.
