Born July 8, 1936 to Dillard and Helen Agnes (Lawrence) Martin in Forrest City, Arkansas

Dean met and married the love of her life, William Wayne Berneking, in 1953 at the young age of 16 and they remained together for 55 years until Wayne's death in October of 2008.

Dean loved her life and lived it to the fullest. She started Berneking's Catering in the late 1960s which she successfully operated for 19 years. She was continually thrilled to be a part of so many couple's weddings and worked diligently to make certain it was a special day for them. She and Wayne were avid antique collectors. They also bought and sold antiques through their joint venture of His N Hers Antiques. This was a passion they shared together for many years traveling to numerous cities to display their wares at antique shows. In most recent years, she could be found attending auctions throughout the state to sell through her antique jewelry business on eBay.

Dean's greatest passion and pride in her life was her family. She could be found on any given day spending time in Salina with her grandchildren Daniel Ethan and Brian Alan attending their paintball and swimming events and always looked forward to her shopping excursions with her daughter-in-law Jonnie. She loved visiting Brian and Scott in Florida where she enjoyed their "tour of restaurants" during her time there.

Dean was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Wayne. She will be sorely missed by her sons, Martin Wayne and his wife Jonnie of Salina, Kansas and Brian Dean and his partner Scott of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, two grandsons, Daniel Ethan and Brian Alan, both of Salina, Kansas, and two brothers, Dillard Ray Martin and wife Marie of Little Rock, Arkansas and Henry Stanley Martin and wife Mary Kay of Vicksburg, Mississippi.
