Dale J. Bergman, age 86 of Hartington, Nebraska, died on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Hartington with military rites by the Hartington VFW Post #5283. Visitation will be on Friday from 3-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will continue on Saturday at church one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers will be Jake Bergman, Ben Bergman, Nick Bergman, Scott Robbins, Dan Pattersson, and Jimmy Guenther.

Dale Joseph Bergman was born on October 9, 1924 in Flandrau, South Dakota to Joseph P. and Ethel (Gothier) Bergman. He grew up in Hartington and lived there until entering the U.S. Navy during WWII. Dale married Eleanor Mary Guenther on February 4, 1948 in St. James, NE. He and Eleanor moved to Shell Lake, Wisconsin in 1950 where he farmed until moving back to Hartington in 1965. Dale was a heavy equipment operator until he retired in 1989.

Dale belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Hartington VFW Post #5283.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Coleridge; seven children and their spouses, Joe and Dian Bergman of Centuria, WI, Janet and Bruce Dunning of West Covina, CA, Marilyn Robbins of DeWitt, NE, Louise Patterson of Norfolk, NE, Tom and Dee Bergman of Sioux Falls, SD, Teri and Charles Magdanz of Dakota City, NE, Doug and Colleen Bergman of Eau Claire, WI; 20 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; four sisters, Lucille Jensen of Hartington, NE, Loretta Bottolfsen of West Point, NE, Dorothy and Rusty Nikel of Oregon City, OR, and Madeline Kruse of Fullerton, CA.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Melissa Robbins; brother Glenn Bergman, and sister Laura Whitehorn.
