Georgia B. "Retha" Autry, age 91, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Sampson Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 25, 1925 in Dillon County, S.C.
In addition to her parents, George and Mollie Benton, and her sister, Tishie Beasley, Georgia is preceded in death by her husband, Thurman J. Autry, and daughters, Barbara Smith and Doris Taylor. She was a loving and dedicated caregiver to her family.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Michael Smith and wife April, and Lori Smith Morgan and husband Scottie; four great grandchildren, Brody and Annsley Jean Smith, Zachary and Emily Morgan; her niece, Betty Martin and husband Garland; and nephew, Bobby Autry and wife Thelma.
Georgia was a textile worker and retired from Roseboro Milling Company after 45 years of service. She was a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church, and cherished her close friends from her Church and Sunday School Class. She spent countless hours enjoying needlework and shared much of it with family and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Monday, January 23, at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro with Reverend Andy Wood and Reverend Michael Shook officiating. Interment will follow at Roseboro Cemetery with Pastor Bryan Strickland officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour beginning at 1:00pm at Butler Funeral Home prior to the service.
Special thanks to Southwood Nursing Center and to the North Carolina Independent Living Program, and to Georgia's caregivers, Faye Ray, Jean Johnson, and Norma Fleming. Also sincere appreciation is extended to Bobby and Thelma Autry for assisting with Georgia's care during her time at Southwood Nursing Center.
