Annie (Schmaltz) Benson was a native of Germany. She had come to the United States in her girlhood and settled in Helena in the early days. She married Benjamin Benson in 1878. Benjamin and Annie lived in their home most of the time during their 53 years of married life, in a part of the gulch where Benjamin had mined for placer gold in the 1860s. She died at her home on West Main Street in Helena on March 17, 1931, age 75. Her death was caused by a paralytic stroke. Annie was survived by her husband, a son, Ben Benson, Jr., and daughters, Mrs. George Steinbrenner of Missoula, Mrs. V. E. Wheeler of Great Falls, and Hattie Benson of this city. (Helena Independent, 3/18/1931) She shares a stone with her husband Benjamin. She is buried in Section B, Row 2.
