Mrs. Florence E. Benson, 89, Davenport, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at her home, following a brief illness.
She was born on September 21, 1913, in Davenport, the daughter of Adolph and Matilda (House) Pohlman. On January 6, 1934, she married Wesley L. Benson in Davenport. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2003.
Mrs. Benson had been employed as a bookkeeper by W.T. Grant Co. and Petersen-Harned-Von Maur, prior to her retirement in 1969.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport, Northwest Turners and Women of the Moose.
She enjoyed her family and socializing, sewing and traveling. She was an avid bowler until the age of 80.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Ken Buchmeyer, Davenport; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Suzy Benson, Enumclaw, Wash.; three grandchildren, Brenda Zinger, Davenport, Doug Arps, Yuma, Ariz., and Jeffrey Benson, Seattle, Wash.; nine step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 19 step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ralph Pohlman.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 1, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, July 31, 2003, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Following the service, a luncheon will be served at Zion Lutheran Church.
