Death: Aug. 19, 2011

Our darling mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 19, 2011 due to causes incident to age.

She was born September 9, 1923 in San Francisco to Irene Jane Watts and William Sylvester Lusty. She was raised in Salt Lake City, attending Ensign Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, and East High. She attended the University of Utah, where she affiliated with Chi Omega Sorority.

In September 1944, Betty and her mother travelled by train to Pampa, Texas, where she was married to Edmond Young (Ned) Bennion who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. (They were later-much later!-sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.)

Following the war, they returned to Utah, where they lived in Ogden and Salt Lake prior to moving to Tucson, Arizona in 1959. They returned in 1963 to Salt Lake, where she lived the remainder of her life.

Betty was always kind and a friend to everyone. She was an accomplished hostess; both family and friends have many fond memories of delicious dinners and good times in her lovely home.

She loved to garden, making the outside of her home as beautiful as the inside. Betty was creative in many ways. She has left a legacy of beautiful hand-knit sweaters and needlepoint works of art.

She served others throughout her life in the Junior League (Ogden, Tucson, Salt Lake), the Assistance League, PTA, and various church callings. She was a member of the Hidden Valley Country Club.

Her greatest accomplishments were as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family always came first. She and Ned were devoted to each other, and she had many happy memories of their wonderful trips and cruises throughout the world.

Betty is survived by her daughter Ann Robinson, her granddaughter Kristen Reynolds, five great grandchildren (Andrew, Spencer, Nathan, Matthew, Lauren), her bother David Lusty (Barbara), her brother Donald Lusty, and her sister-in-law Lucy Bennion, as well as by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ned. She has been lonely and patiently waiting these last four 1/2 years for their reunion. The joy of knowing they are together again outweighs all the sorrow and tribulation she has had to bear. We love you, we will miss you, and we look forward to being together with you both again.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. in the Federal Heights Ward Chapel (1300 East Fairfax Avenue). A visitation will be held prior to that from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Relief Society room.
