Abigail is the daughter of Phylander Noble and Mindwell Carver Gunn. Both parents died before 1850, and she and her sister Amelia, are living with their Aunt Lauretta Amelia Noble Kelly and her husband William Kelly in Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. William Kelly is a tavern keeper at that time.
Her Aunt and Uncle took the girls and went to California in 1852. They traveled via across Panama and took a steamer called the Panama to San Francisco, arriving in September. They traveled to the gold country, and lived in Sonora. She married William Cogswell Bennett on the 26th of March 1854.
By 1860 she is found in Alisal, Montery County, California and her husband is farming. She has two daughters and they are living in the same homes as a Methodist Clergyman and his wife. In 1870 she is living in Gilroy, Santa Clara County, California and her husband his still farming. She now has added a son to her family. In 1880 she is still living in Gilroy and is listed in the census as divorced. She is with a daughter and son. Her son, Willie, is 17 years old and working as a butcher boy.
November of 1883 there is a notice in the Fresno Republican Newspaper that Abigail is dangerously ill. In December of 1883 she dies in Fresno and is buried in Gilroy. The Fresno Republican writes "The death of Mrs. A. J. Bennett, which occurred on last Wednesday, is a source of profound sorrow to her relatives and many friends in Fresno. She was a devout christian and an intelligent lady loved and respected by all who knew her. Her remains were taken to her former home at Gilroy for interment."
