obituary from LaHarper, LaHarpe, IL, May 7, 1909
Nordan Bennett
Died- At the home of his son, Ransford, three and one-half miles southeast of this city, Tuesday morning at 4:30 o'clock, May 4, 1909, Mr. Nordan Bennett, aged 69 years, 9 months and 14 days.
Mr. Bennett was born on the adjoining farm from where he died, July 20, 1940, and had lived there for the full time of his life, except the three and a half years spent in this city, which the death of Mrs. Bennett about three years ago terminated, since which time he has made his home with his sons.
He was married to Miss Rhoda Jane Noble in 1860. Three sons, Raymond, Ransford and Lorenzo were born to them, and they were loving, dutiful children, seeking to honor and bring comfort to their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett were very domestic in their natures.
In all dealing he was honest; in all speech he was truthful; in deeds he was kind and generous. He gave no man offense intentionally. Morally he was right, and although it was but a few years ago that he joined the Christian church, his life was exemplary and conformed wholly to right living.
His sickness was but an enfeebleness until about seven weeks since he suffered from acute stomach trouble. Realizing his condition sometime since he made a division of his land holdings with his sons and leaves his estate without a dollar of incumbrance showing.
He has eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Bennett was a son of Isaac and Sarah (Duncan) Bennett. There were eleven children, all of whom have passed to the Beyond except, Rufus B., of this city, Mrs. Phoebe Knowles, of Dallas City, and Jeremiah Bennett of Oklahoma.
