Betty R. Ammons, 75, died suddenly Saturday afternoon (October 29, 2011) at Wayne Memorial Hospital of Jesup.

She was a native of Blackshear and had lived most of her life in Hinesville. She had made her home in Jesup since 1998. She was the daughter of the late Willie Lawton Bennett, Sr and Pearl Irma Williams Bennett. She was the wife of the late Thomas A. Ammons, Sr. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Joan Bullard and a granddaughter, Latisha Ammons.

She was of the Baptist faith and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Hinesville. She was a family oriented person and enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Ammons Jones of Adrian, three sons, Thomas A. Ammons, Jr., (wife Linda) of Patterson, James Michael Ammons (wife Joyce) of Gum Branch, and Dwayne Edward Ammons (wife Gail) of Jesup, ; a step-daughter, LaGail Avery (husband Ben) of Adrian; seven grandchildren, Thomas Leaston "Todd" Ammons, Edgefield, SC, Billy Lamar Richardson of Ft. Sill, OK, Oscar M. Richardson, Jr. of Guyton, Tonya D. Riveria of Atlanta, Myssi Dehl of Ashville, NC, Alyssa Nichole Ammons and Elizabeth Ashley Ammons of Jesup; six great grandchildren, Caitlyn Kenney, Alexis Lynch, Grant Ammons, Maya Richardson, Savanna Richardson, and Alejandro Riveria; four brothers, Gary Bennett (wife Deloris) of Dixie Union, Mike Bennett (wife Marcel) of Harriett's Bluff, W.L. Bennett of St. Mary's, and Harold Bennett of Lizella; an uncle, Bruce Williams of Valdosta; a special friend, Shalimar Ludwig of Jesup and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will be receiving friends at the home of her son, Thomas A. Ammons, Jr and from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Music Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday (November 2, 2011) at Music Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
