Entered service Aug 28, 1862 for 3 yrs at age 20. Ohio War Roster Remarks: Killed June 19, 1864 in battle of Pine Knob, Georgia. (Pine Knob was June 15-17, however.)

At the time of his death, the 29th Ohio was part of 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 20th Army Corps.

U.S. Burial Register:
Died June 16, 1864. Originally buried at Pine Mountain.

Battlefield burial was in a group of 10 graves, 6 had headboards identified as 29th Ohio: E. Bennett, Sergt Thomas Davis, E. Bennett, J.S. Duston, Sergt A.L. Rickard, and 1st Sergt J.E. Tanner. The VA Grave Locator has E. Bennett in C-2217. The second E. Bennett was buried as Unknown in C-2219.

TJ Failes, Co K, died at Acworth on June 17 of wounds received at Pine Knob. John J Belknap, Co F, died of wounds on June 20 received in same battle; did not find grave. J Grim, Co I, noted in Ohio Roster Roll of Honor as killed at battle of Pine Knob on June 15, buried in Chattanooga, TN.; no Grim there (not likely to transport body), but James Grimes with no death date. C Roath, Co A, was killed June 15 in the attack on Gilgal Church aka Pine Knob.
