Donna L. Benner, age 84, of Alliance, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at her home.
She was born April 24, 1925, in Alliance to Clarance and Elizabeth (Dixon) Gardner.
She was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church for more than 60 years and helped serve and prepare church dinners. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 574 of North Georgetown where she was secretary for many years and also served as chaplain. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and needlework.
Donna is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (Tony) Burkhart of Alliance; two sons, Jack (Lee Ann) Benner of Salem and Ted Benner of Alliance; daughter-in-law, Nancy Benner; six grandchildren, Bill, Dan, Andy, Amy, Amanda and Casey; four great-grandchildren, Kolton, Kassie, Dana and Brandon; a brother, Clarence Virgil (Marjorie) Gardner of Marana, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her son, Ron; two sisters, Bernice J. Phillips and Wanda E. Beamer; four brothers, Kenneth F., Merle (Pat), Walter G. (Gerd) and Glen L. (Jimmy).
A private memorial service will be held. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 23250 Main St., Homeworth, Ohio, 44634 or to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Ave. Suite 106, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
