Helen Benfield Eller, 93, passed away March 5, 2013, at the Levine-Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.
Eller was born October 21, 1919 in Avery County, one of seven children to the late Roberta Bennett and Marshall Alexander Benfield.
She lived happily for 67 years with her husband Carl B. Eller until his death in 2006.
The Ellers moved to Concord in the early 1950s to work at Jackson School for Boys. He was the farm manager and she was the school nurse for 30 years.
During these years they lived in Concord and Lake Norman.
Eller lived with her daughter, Ellen MacClamrock Rush and her husband, Frank Rush, for 16 years preceding her death. She was the devoted grandmother to Gerald MacClamrock, Jr. and wife Carol of Hudson, Carla MacClamrock of Raleigh, Candice MacClamrock of Concord, Lauren McInnis and husband, Mark, of Concord; and her great grandchildren, Camille Clair, Cathryn Grace and Chase Eller Corbett of Raleigh.
She was also survived by her “bonus grandchildren”, Randy W. Rush and wife, Pam, of Concord, Misty Rush Hudson of Hendersonville; and great-grandchildren Brittany and Randy Rush of Concord and Madison and Walker Hudson of Hendersonville, and Clint Scarborough and wife, Samatha; and great-great-grandchild, Kennedi of Camp Lejeuene.
She is also survived by brother-in-law, Tom Wise and sister-in-law Corine Eller of Newland and sisters-in-law Betty Puckett and Lula Smith of Banner Elk.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 1 pm at First Baptist Church in Newland on Saturday, March 23, 2013, with visitation following. Dr. Bill Jones will officiate.
