Doris Marie Benedict Purgatorio, 85, of Houston, passed away on May 21st in Houston.
Doris was born in Texas City on September 26, 1928. She attended school in Texas City and Sweeny, Texas. She graduated the University of Texas School of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse in Radiology. She married Bert Purgatorio, Jr. on November 14th, 1953 in Houston. She was a longtime member of St John Vianney Catholic Church, and was involved in many organizations within the church for over thirty years. She was dedicated to her family and her service to the Lord.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Bert R. Purgatorio, Jr. and parents, Elsworth and Florence Benedict.
Doris is survived by one daughter Helena Struppeck and husband Tom of Austin, TX; three sons, Bert R. Purgatorio III and wife Fannie of Baton Rouge, LA, Robert E. Purgatorio and wife Gina of Richmond, TX, and James H. Purgatorio of Houston; one sister, Barbara A. O'Connor and husband Richard of San Antonio, TX; five grandchildren, Kyle Daniel Purgatorio, Katie Marie Purgatorio, Jared Philip Purgatorio, Kendall Marie Purgatorio, John Robert Purgatorio; and one great grandchild Carsyn Jené Capdevielle.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service and Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m., at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079, at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, May 23, 2014. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Purgatorio, Jared Purgatorio, Tom Struppeck, Michael Morganthaler, John Lucas and Richard O'Connor.
