Donald E. Bender, 74, of Jonestown, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at his home. He was the husband of Karen S. Pernell Bender, and on March 12th, they celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. Born in Lancaster Co., on April 27, 1936, he was the son of the late Jacob and Ada White Bender. Along with his nephew, Larry Bender, they owned and operated Bender Trucking in Annville until his retirement in 2004. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Jimmy D. Mealey of Mahoney Plane; daughters Melinda S. wife of William Wright of Clinton, TN, Kathryn G. Mealey and companion Brian Kreiser of Jonestown; brothers John Bender of Lancaster Co., Roy Bender of Washington Boro., Ralph Bender of Morris Run, Jim Bender and Lloyd Bender both of Lancaster Co.; sisters Rhoda Gerlock of Lancaster Co. and Elizabeth Bender of Lebanon Co.; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Deborah L. Moss, a brother Richard Bender and a sister Edna Beaston. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Grand View Memorial Park, N. Annville Twp. Viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home, Rt. 72 & Camp Meeting Rd., Jonestown.
