Donald L. Belton was born September 4, 1929 at Pleasant Hill, Louisiana and passed away
November 2, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Belton graduated from Simsboro High School in 1946 where he played basketball and baseball. He attended Louisiana Tech University and served in the U.S. Navy. After being discharged from the Navy, he began his career with South Central Bell as a lineman. He progressed through the company and retired from AT&T as Supervisor of Installation. Don began playing musical instruments at the age of five and developed a life-long passion for music. He performed in many groups including The Price Quartet, The Grey Eagles and The Last Chance Band, which was named Louisiana Nursing Home Association's Group Volunteer in 2000 and performed twice at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Survived by his wife of 62 years Mary Lillian Allen Belton; the five K's: Kim and husband Bill Phillips of Springdale, AR; Keith Belton and wife Maria Longa of Estero, FL; Keri and husband Alan Grafton, Tulsa, OK; Kevin Belton, Shreveport, LA; and Kirk Belton and wife Jamie of Kingwood, TX. He was “Pepa” to grandchildren: Robbie Phillips and wife Carissa, Mesa, AZ; Jon Grafton and wife Pamela, Tulsa, OK; Jared Grafton and wife Tiffany, Moore, OK; Kelly Belton Ducote and husband Nick of La Grande, OR; Zach Belton, Kingwood, TX; Nathaniel Longa Belton, Estero, FL; Kim Hernandez and daughter Maddy, Kingwood, TX; and Cassy Walden, Kingwood, TX. He is also survived by his sister Martha Kay Hendrix, Ruston, in laws Bruce & Wanda Allen, Ruston; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceeded in death by his parents, Prentis and Mildred (Skinner) Belton; one brother, Wally “Rex” Belton and
sister-in-law Alta Hanna Belton.
Pallbearers will be grandsons; nephews Randy Allen, Terry Lowery, Steve Lowery and Joel Johnson; and family friend Phillip Cardwell. Honorary pallbearers will be W. C. “Jim” Colvin, Jim Richardson, Paul Woodard and Alan Young.
The family would like to thank the congregations of Antioch and Trinity United Methodist Churches, as well as the staff at Northern Louisiana Medical Center, Glenwood Regional Medical Center; Northeast Louisiana Kidney Specialists; and Hospice of Caring Hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Radio and/or TV Ministry at Trinity United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 7th at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1000 Woodward Avenue, Ruston, LA under the direction of Owens Funeral Home.
