Gladys Legendre (1917-2002) was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. She married James Divine Hart (1917-1976). After his demise, Gladys married George Elliott Belote Jr. (1914-1998) in Harrison County, Mississippi on June 4, 1982.(Harrison Co., Mississippi 2nd JD Circuit Court MRB 24, p. 265)
There is a discrepancy in the birth date of Gladys Hart Belote. Her tombstone relates it as September 6, 1917 while the SSDI has it as September 16, 1917.
George E. Belote Jr. died at Ocean Springs, Mississippi in June 1998. He was survived by Gladys Legendre Hart Belote of Ocean Springs; six children, Mrs. Ann Jeanette Simonson of New Orleans, George E. Belote III of Niceville, Fla., Mrs. Margaret A. Frieberg of Los Angeles, Calif., Michael H. Belote of Collierville, Tenn., Christopher J. Belote of Biloxi, and Beverly Marie Belote of Oxnard, Calif.; two brothers, Edmond R. Belote of Baton Rouge, La., and Eugene Q. Belote of Dunedin, Fla.; six stepchildren, John Hart of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Ruth Ann Haley of Colorado, Mrs. Charlotte Randazzo, Mrs. Carolyn Reese, Mrs. Gladys Simmons and Mrs. Jamie Simmons of Biloxi; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Belote was a communicant of Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., June 5, 1998, at the Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs with the Rosary at 8 p.m. A requiem Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception in Memphis, Tenn., on Monday, June 8, 1998, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
