Expect Body of Mrs. R. J. Barr Here Tuesday
Widow of Former Superintendent of Schools Dies in California
Mrs. R. J. Barr, former prominent Grand Island woman, died Sunday evening in a nursing home at LaJolla, Cal., friends here were advised last evening. On January 8 of this year she had reached her 85th birthday anniversary.
The widow of the late R. J. Barr, for many years superintendent of Grand Island schools and ins whose memory Barr junior high school was named, Mrs. Barr resided here fro many years. gifted as a pianist, she was active in the St. Cecilia society and other musical circles, was for years the organist at St. Stephen's Episcopal church. She also gave piano lessons to many Grand Island young people.
After the death of Mr. Barr in 1923, she went to Ann Arbor, Mich., to reside with her only child, Dr. Albert S. Barr. She also spent several winters in Florida with a brother, and in California where two sisters, Mrs. Charles Rankin, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Judson Smith, Pacific Beach, reside. She had spent the past year in a nursing home in LaJolla and her condition had been serious for several months.
The body will arrive from LaJolla tomorrow afternoon. Dr. and Mrs. Albert Barr are expected tomorrow night from Ann Arbor.
