Birth: 1803, Northern Ireland
Death: Aug. 30, 1879
Nova Scotia, Canada

Born in Northern Ireland he was affiliated with the Anglican Church and must have left his native land at a young age and joined the British Army.

We do know, from existing records, that John Bell was a Sgt. in the Royal Canadian Rifles and listed as a member of the regimental band.

Somehow he became acquanted with young Ellen Kennedy an Irish Catholic girl from Maitland, Nova Scotia who was 25 yrs his junior.

The two were married in the late 1850s and had their only child Annie, born in 1860. John retired after a full career in the military and the Bell family settled in Ellen's home village of Maitland, Hants Co. around 1871. Sgt. John Bell died in 1879 and must have requested that his burial site be in The Anglican Churchyard of St. Paul's at Rosette/Round Hill, Annapolis Co., NS near the famous military base of Annapolis Royal.

His daughter Annie (1860-1937) left instructions in her will for the substantial sum of $200 to be placed in trust for the care and upkeep of her dear father's grave and headstone.
