David Gordon Bell passed away at the Renown Hospital in Reno. He was born to David V. and Anna May Bell in Winnemucca. He spent his early years of schooling in Winnemucca and Elko and graduated from high school in Portola, CA. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served fours years during the Korean conflict. He worked for the Western Pacific Railroad for seven years as a fireman and the Winnemucca Police Department as a patrolman and lieutenant and even assistant chief for a while. He co-owned "The Loafers," distributing bread, sweets and chips from Reno to Winnemucca, McDermitt and Battle Mountain for "too many" years. He worked many years as a retail distributor for Wonder Bread and Coca Cola. For most of his life up to the time of his death he was actively involved in Little League baseball in all aspects from coach to administrator of District 111. He recently received his 50-year pin from Little League. He served on the Humboldt County School Board for many years and was a strong youth advocate. He felt all youth deserved a chance and did what he could to ensure they received the opportunity. Dave was a "Die Hard" Cubs fan and always thought "this" was the year the Cubs would go to the World Series. Dave is survived by Carolyn, his wife of 41 years; six children: David Bell of Santa Clara, CA, Lisa and Terry Madigan of Canyon Country, CA, Kurt and Liz Bell and Dennis and Shannon Bell of Sparks, Michael and Debi Bell and Jennifer and Chad Kemp of Winnemucca; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Diltz of Sierraville, CA; uncle, Charles (Bubbins) Bell, of Winnemucca; his beloved cats, C.T. middle initial A. and B.C.; as well as many extended family members. He was preceded in death by daughter, Laura, in 2005; brother, Jon; and his parents.
A memorial celebration of life will be held in his honor for family and friends on Friday, April 20, 2007, at 3 p.m. in the West Hall of the Winnemucca Convention Center.
