Elizabeth Brown, daughter of William and Elizabeth Brown, was born in the Fairfield District near Winnsboro, South Carolina on the 23rd of July 1827. Her parents were Scotch-Irish reform Presbyterians and members of Ebenezer A.R.P. Church.

In the mid-1830's, many of the families of Ebenezer, known locally as Old Brick Church, emigrated west to the area around what became, Starkville Mississippi. Elizabeth and her family where part of this group. Another family in the group were the Hugh Bell's; their son James Watt Bell would marry Elizabeth.

James and Elizabeth made their home in Starkville. There are no no known children. Elizabeth departed this life four years after James on the 21st of July 1881. She was laid to rest beside James in the churchyard cemetery of the Old Starkville A.R.P. Church; where Elizabeth had been a member for over 40 years.
