Mrs. Bell was born Feb. 10, 1916, in Staunton and received a teaching degree from Longwood Teachers College in Farmville, Va. She was a first grade teacher from 1954 to 1979 at the Naval Academy Primary School.
Naval officers returning to duty in Annapolis frequently requested that she teach their first grade children, asking for her by name, her family said.
Mrs. Bell was a longtime parishioner at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church and also attended the Naval Academy Chapel. She enjoyed needlework and reading "Honorary Neighborhood Grandmom." She loved children and they loved her, family said.
In 1943 she married Haney H. Bell Jr. who died in 1992. She was the mother of the late William D. Bell and the sister of the late Amelia Pendleton.
