Captain in the Augusta County Militia during the Revolutionary War, has a U.S. Government issued stone.

Reference: Colonial Families of the United States - Lineage of James Franklin 84-85" "David Bell,. circa 1722, probably in Ireland; d. Mar 1780. He served as a private from Augusta Co. in the French and Indian War, in 1758 and at the time of his death was Captain of one of the Militia companies of Augusta Co. Besides rendering military service in capacities in the Old French War, in guarding the Virginia frontiers against the Indians, and in mustering and training men for the war of Independence, he furnished large quantities of cattle and provisions to the Virginia troops in the field between the outbreak of the Revolution and his death. Shortly before his marriage he purchased a tract of 400 acres of land in Beverly Manor, on a branch of the Middle River, in Augusta Co, and on this tract he resided until his death. This tract immediately adjoined the tract of 200 acres on Poage's Run in Beverly Manor, which was the "home place" of William Bell, the immigrant. Capt. David Bell was a man of affairs, active and successful in business, of considerable means, and a leading citizen of his community. m. circa 1754-55, in Augusta Co., Va., Florence Henderson, d.1809-10, dau. of William and Susannah Henderson."
