ELIJAH SYLVESTER "LIGE" BELL
Elijah Sylvester "Lige" Bell, 98, of Wenatchee, passed away Friday morning, April 3, 1998, at his residence in Wenatchee.
He was born Jan. 15, 1900, in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma before its admission as a state, now known as Le Flore County, Okla., to Sylvester and Nancy (Kitchens) Bell.
Callie Ovel Church and Elijah Sylvester Bell were married on May 3, 1925, in Clemscott, Okla. They moved from Elmore City, Okla., to Manson in 1943, and then to Wenatchee after they retired. Mr. Bell was raised as a share crop farmer in Oklahoma and then was an orchardist in Manson for many years. After his retirement as an orchardist he worked at various fruit houses.
He loved people and enjoyed conversation and visiting with them. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Wenatchee. He had served on the deacon board while attending the Chelan First Baptist Church. He was involved with the Boy Scouts and the Sea Scouts in Manson, and was a member of the Manson Grange.
He is survived by his daughters, Lois Davis and husband Fred of Monitor, and Joyce Parish and husband Lee of Wenatchee; his sons, Loy and wife Claudia of Malaga, Ray and wife Jean of Chelan, E.S. Jr. and wife Marilyn of Anacortes, Roy and wife Alene of Arvada, Colo., Bob and wife Philo of Kent, Joe and wife Judy of Pullman, Bill of Wenatchee, and Larry and wife Kathy, also of Wenatchee; 43 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Delrena Mackliet of Wenatchee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Callie O. Bell on Jan. 27, 1998.
Services are under the care of Betts Funeral Service, Wenatchee.
