Christian W. Beikman, 70, 509 East Second street, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday in Schneck Memorial Hospital after being in failing health for several years. He had been hospitalized since Tuesday morning.

A native of Jackson County, Mr. Beikman was a retired employe of the John C. Groub Company, having worked there for 37 years. He was born on February 3, 1893, to the late John and Sophia Hartman Beikman.

He was married on July 2, 1921, in Bartholomew County to the former Alma Schroer, who survives. A life-long resident of Jackson County, Mr. Beikman was a veteran of World War I and a member of St. Paul's Congregational Church in Seymour.

Survivors besides his widow include four children, Mrs. Gerald Graves, Seymour; Melvin B. Beikman, Brunswick, Ga.; Helen M. Beikman, Menlo Park, Calif.; and Mrs. Richard Glidewell, Indianapolis; three brothers, Edwin Beikman, Bloomington; Albert Beikman, Beech Grove, Ind. and Alvin Beikman, Seymour; three sisters, Mrs. Ernest Rhoads, Seymour; Mrs. Albert Mitchell, Shieldstown; and Mrs. Newton Hayes, Seymour; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One brother, Amos, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday from the Voss Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Whitten, pastor of St. Paul's Congregational Church, officiating. Burial in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call after noon Thursday at the Voss Mortuary.
