Bessie Behringer Storrs has entered into blessed rest. A private interment was held at the Riesel Cemetery which is near her childhood home. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at Columbus Avenue Church of christ, 1525 Columbus. Ministers Bert Mercer and David Rogers will officiate, with Karen Hogue as soloist.

Bessie was born in Riesel, the third daughter of John H. and Ida (Robertson) Behringer. She and Melton R. Storrs were married in 1936. Two sons were born to the young couple, James Melton and Joe Ronnie, both now of Woodway. The family lived in Houston and Paris before settling in Waco.

Bessie devoted more time to decorative gardening and flower arranging. She held office in several garden clubs and had award-winning entries in various shows. She took delight in her flower gardens and loved to share plants with others.

Bessie was baptized into Christ in Riesel. She placed membership at Columbus Avenue Church of Christ in 1955, upon moving to Waco, and was involved in church activities as long as her health permitted. She spent much of her life in service to others in need. She provided care and support, as she was able, often providing home-cooked meals to shut-ins and the bereaved. This she continued even in declining health, which she fought with grit and determination.

Preceding her in death was her husband in 1970; siblings, Louis Behringer, of Riesel, and Trecia Walden and Selma Guggolz, of Waco.

Survivors include her sons, James Melton Storrs and Joe Ronnie Storrs, both of Woodway; two granddaughters; several great-grandchildren; a devoted sister, Doris Dickson, of Waco; as well as her sisters in Christ at Columbus Avenue, who were assiduously faithful in visiting and providing comfort to her and her sons until the end. This list would also be incomplete without mention of her devoted nieces, Shirley Guggolz Cook and Nancy Guggolz Rogers, and her long-time friend, Mary Margaret Hagar, for their regular visits and remembrances on special occasions during her final years of confinement.

Memorials may be made to the American Iris Society or the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc. Arrangements by Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, Waco, Texas.
