He retired as assistant supervisor of Jefferson County Schools, Lakewood, Colo. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the church's Ministers of Praise, Munjor.
Survivors include his wife, Albina, of the home; a son, Richard, Danville, five daughters, Ethel Brouillette, Hastings, Neb., Carolyn Pritchard, South Bend, Ind., Norma Cornell, Concord, Calif., Rosetta Beckner, Hays, and Jeanette Sallee, Wichita; five brothers, Bill Befort, and Michael Befort, both of Hays, Adam Befort, Lawrence, George Befort, Arvada, Colo., and Jim Befort, Broomfield, Colo.; seven sisters, Ida Gross, Olivia Legleiter, Esther Riedel, Mary Leiker, Roseann Giebler and Dorothy Gottschalk, all of Hays, and Helen Weaver, Salina; and 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cynthia Pritchard, a great-grandson Joseph Brouillette, three brothers, Robert, Ralph and Harold Befort, and a sister, Sister Firmina Befort.
Service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church, Munjor, with Father Michael Suchnicki officiating; burial in the church cemetery. A Christian Mothers rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. and a Ministers of Praise rosary, all at Hays Memorial Chapel, 20th and Pine in Hays. Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the mortuary.
