"I have found in my family archives a paper packet with a braid of Jennie Beers' blonde hair. Inscribed on the paper is 'Jennie Esther Beers Aged 9 years Died Sept. 21st 1878.' I don't know how to account for the conflicting information with the grave marker, except to note that other markers in the graveyard have erroneous dates. And I note also that the 1870 census, enumerated 18 July 1870, gives Jennie's age as 11 months, making her date of birth sometime around August 1869. This would accord with the inscription on the paper with Jennie's hair."
