ELKHART - Elinor B. Eastman, 88, of Elkhart, formerly of South Bend, IN and Naples, FL, died at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday (September 21, 2011) at Greenleaf Living Center. She was born August 30, 1923 in Knightstown, Indiana to Thomas and Helen (Craft) Beecher. She married Arthur A. Eastman, Jr. on April 24, 1948 in Knightstown, Indiana. He preceded her in death in November of 2005. She is survived by 1 son, David Eastman of South Bend, IN and 1 daughter, Cynthia (Gene) Gamber of Elkhart. Also surviving are 2 granddaughters, 2 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Elinor attended Western College for Women in Oxford, OH for 1 year and then graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She then taught kindergarten at Stanley Clark School in South Bend. She was a member of the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart. Elinor was a former Docent at the Snite at Notre Dame and a former Docent at the Philharmonic in Naples, FL. She was a volunteer at the Conservancy in Naples, FL and a member of Service Guild of Niles, MI. She was a member of the Signal Point Club of Niles, MI and the South Bend Country Club. Elinor was a member of the Trinity by the Cove Church in Naples, FL and the St. James Cathedral in South Bend. There will be a Private Family Celebration of Life for Elinor. The internment for Elinor will be at a later date in Naples, FL. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with the arrangements.
