Dorothy Steck Beech, 87, a retired business owner, died Nov. 27 at Centennial Gardens in Monterey. She was born Sept. 2, 1915, in Kern County and had lived in Carmel Highlands since 1962. Mrs. Beech was the owner of Beeches' Gallery in Carmel for 36 years, where she featured the work of many local artists. She also was a gifted artist in her own right. She received her associate of arts degree from Monterey Peninsula College. She was a campus beauty queen and the winner of drama awards while attending the college in 1937. Mrs. Beech was a longtime member of the Carmel Art Association. She is survived by a half-sister, Marjorie Hopkins of Fountain Valley; and a niece, Sharon Dumas of Bella Vista. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, John W. Beech. Memorial services are pending. Inurnment will be at El Carmelo Cemetery. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to the SPCA of Monterey County, P.O. Box 3058, Monterey 93942.
