Anton Bednarz was the son of Anton and Catherine (Bruner) Bednarz. He was born in 1871 in Vienna, Austria. His father was born in Vienna and his mother was born in Tyrol. German was their native tongue. The family can be found in Philadelphia Passenger Lists as having arrived on June 13, 1874 from Antwerp, Belgium - Anton Bednarz, 28, with wife Catherine, 30, son Anton, 3, and son Gustav, 6.
Enlisted June 22, 1898 in Shelton, Iowa. Served with Company "E" of 52nd Iowa Infantry. Mustered out on October 30, 1898 at Des Moines, Iowa.
The 1900 Wisconsin census lists his brother Gustave as head of household with Anton (born March 1871) and his parents, Anton Sr., and Kathryn.
Mr. Bednarz married Margaret Blam on May 14, 1917. She was born in 1884. The couple lived in Milwaukie, Wisconsin during the 1920 census. Their daughter, Adeline L. Bednarz, was eight years old in the 1930 Belma, Yakima County, Washington census and had been born in Wisconsin.
Anton Bednarz died February 8, 1931 in Bremerton, Washington and is buried at Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery in Seattle.
