John Richard Bedgood is the oldest son of Samuel Franklin and Mary Ann Rogers Bedgood. He was born in 1810 in Washington County, Georgia. John married the widowed Rhoda S Brantley Ely on 18 Oct 1840 in Washington County. They had one son together, James William Franklin Bedgood born in 1842. In Aug 1848, John was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the 89th Georgia Militia. He lived his life in Washington County as a farmer, and is found on the 1850, 1860, 1870 censuses there. The 1850 Census shows John Richard Bedgood owned 5 slaves. For a time he was a member of the New Bethel Church. He died at the age of 78 and is is buried near his wife and son in the Bedgood Family Cemetery near Riddleville. He is my GGGrandfather.
