Company A "Washington Guards" of Fredericksburg, 30th Virginia Infantry, Corse's Brigade, Pickett's Division, 1st Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence Fredericksburg, VA; 23 year old confectioner.
Enlisted for 12 months' service on 4/22/1861 in Fredericksburg, he was mustered into Company A, 30th Virginia Infantry as a Private.
Present on all rolls through March & April 1863 Roll.
Promoted to Corpl 3/1/1863.
POW 4/13/1863 Suffolk, VA.
Deserted on 1/15/1865 south of Richmond; on 1/17/1865 taken to HQ Provost Marshal of the Army of the James, Bermuda One Hundred, VA. where he took Oath; transferred 1/18/1865 to Provost Marshal, City Point, VA.; sent 1/19/1865 to Provost Marshal, Army of the Potomac, Washington, D.C.

Postwar he again was a Fredericksburg, VA. confectioner, at 417 Prince Edward Street.
Married twice: Jeanette I. Cridlin; Mary Waller Masters.
Father of Addie J.; Franklin, Jr.; Mary Alice; Willie Barnes; Jeanette I.; Elsie Lee.
None of these children but Addie (36 years only) survived into adulthood.

On Tuesday last, Mr. Frank Beckwith, of this city, led to the altar of love's unspeakable bliss, Miss Mollie W. Masters, at her residence in Stafford. The Rev. I.W. Canter performed the ceremony.
The following constituted the special attendants: Mr. J.W. Masters, with Miss S.E. Honey; Mr. R.B. McCalley with Miss Bert Lunsford, and Mr. H. Wistar Honey with Miss Maria Carter.
After the marriage the entire company was served with delicious refreshments, and the bride and groom came to this city where they left by the 9 o'clock train North for a bridal excursion. (Fredericksburg) The Free Lance - April 5, 1889.

The 30th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Fredericksburg, Virginia, in June, 1861. Men of this unit were from Fredericksburg and the counties of Spotsylvania, Caroline, Stafford, and King George.
