Leonard Raymond Beck of Independence, died March 15, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center. Mr. Beck was born in Centralia, OK, and moved to Independence in 1953.
He was retired from the Herald Publishing Co.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was injured in northern Italy in hand-to-hand combat, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as a pianist and organist for many years.
He graduated from Centralia High School, attended college at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, and did graduate work at the University of Kansas, Lawrence.
His survivors include his wife, Emma Beck of the home; two daughters, Janet Huntsucker and Mona Kirk, both of Independence, MO; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Bertha Kampe of Independence, MO; and Frances Milton of South Carolina; four half-brothers, Osburn A. Beck Jr. of California; Wesley Beck of Cheyenne, WY; Joseph Beckof Independence, MO; and Thomas Beck of OK; and many nieces and nephews.
Services are Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial in Mound Grove Cemetery.
