Birth: Sep. 23, 1888
Hamburg, Germany
Death: Nov. 28, 1937
Nebraska, USA

"Long Branch, Neb., Dec. 1. - The Long Branch community was greatly shocked Sunday to hear of the death of Hans Bebensee which occurred that evening about 5:30 o'clock. Mr. Bebensee has been in failing health for the past three years, but his illness was but a few days duration. Hans Bebensee, the oldest son of Mr. & Mrs Gustav Bebensee, was born September 23, 1889, in Hamburg, Germany, and passed away at his home near Elk Creek, Sunday evening at the age of forty-eight years, two months and five days. He came to this country at the age of ten years and made his home with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Haack Sr. At the age of fourteen years, he was confirmed at the Long Branch Lutheran Church, and Free Baptist Church. He was united in marriage to Jessie May Vanlaningham on February 16, 1911, at the Long Branch Baptist parsonage. To this union, four children were born; Velma, wife of Herman Kuhl, near Johnson; Charles Vernon, who died in infancy; Loraine and Eva, both living at home. Besides these he is survived by his wife and granddaughter, Arlonine, and son-in-law, Herman Kuhl; two sisters, Mrs. Gretchen Effinger, living in Germany, Mrs. Emma Alberts Culbertson, and one brother Gustav Bebensee of Wilcox. Mr. Bebensee was one of Johnson county's progressive farmers, very dependable in business relations, thoughtful of others, and held in high esteem by his friends and neighbors, who extended their most heartfelt sympathy to the family in their hour of sorrow. Many were in attendance at the funeral which was held at the Wherry chapel in Tecumseh Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The service was conducted by Ref. John H. Wolfe of Pawnee City, an old friend of the family. Burial was in the Grandview cemetery."
