Funeral services for Mrs. J. L. Beard, 89, who died in Ennis Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Izora Holland, were held Friday in Ennis. Burial followed in Myrtle Cemetery, Ennis.
Mrs. Beard, formerly Fannie Lockhart, was born in old Washington, Texas, Feb 26, 1849, and moved to Corsicana with her parents when she was three years of age. She was married in Corsicana, Feb 8, 1866, to J. L. Beard. Following their marriage they resided on a farm near Ennis until 1906, when they moved to Garden City where Mr. Beard died 1908. Mrs. Beard then returned to Ennis and has resided there since that time. Two years ago she sustained a broken hip in a fall and had been confined to her bed since.
Surviving are six children, two daughters, Mrs. Izora Holland of Ennis, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. B. C. Hitchcock of Corsicana and four sons, C. B. Beard of El Paso, John Beard of Hobbs, New Mexico, A. E. Beard of Emhouse, and J. T. Beard of Dallas. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Beard was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church of Corsicana, which was organized in 1855.
