She was born Oct. 1, 1930, at Sedalia, Missouri, a daughter of John and Olive Mae (Morris) Collins. At age 2, her family moved to Erie where she was raised and attended school. After graduating high school, she attended a business school in Kansas City. She later returned to Erie and began working at the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service as an office clerk and was employed there for 35 years. She retired in 1985.
On Jan. 11, 1953, she married William Don Beard at the Federated Church at Erie. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1980.
She was a member of Erie Federated Church. She also belonged to the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and great-nephews, many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; a great-great-great-nephew, Levi Ritz, of Neoshesha; and a sister, Evelyn Russell of Roswell, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John A. Collins; and two sisters, Vivian Collins and Wilma Morris.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Demas officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday.
