FARMINGTON - Joyce B. Howe, 88, of Kingfield, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Edgewood Rehabilitation Center in Farmington where she had been a resident for 11 years. She was born on Dec. 24, 1923, in Kingfield, a daughter of Jasper and Sylvia (Woodcock) Beane.
She attended Kingfield schools and went on to study nursing.
On Sept. 1, 1944, she married Charles Howe. They made their home in Kingfield and later Hebron, until moving to Haverhill, Mass. in 1959. While in Haverhill she worked for several years at Buttrick's Ice Cream stand and as a cook in the kitchen of a local nursing home.
She was also very involved in the Ward Hill Church of Christ, serving in many different capacities.
In 1980, after retirement, she returned to Kingfield where she was a member of the Methodist church and later the Baptist church. She enjoyed participating in Bible studies and enjoyed traveling, visiting with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Slavens and her husband, David of East Peoria, Ill.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles on Oct.4, 1984; two daughters, Terry Howe and Jane Robinson; and a sister, Ruth Wills.
Interment will be at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Kingfield. (Morning Sentinel 5/7/2012)
