He had one younger brother Daniel Paul Bean born May 9 1922 and went to The Lord October 11 2007. John was born in Graterford, Pennsylvania July 20 1917. His father was a farmer and moved the family west to Anamosa, Iowa when the depression hit and he lost the farm. John's father passed away February 6, 1933 and John went to work on his uncle's farm to support his mother and younger brother. In 1936 he joined the army and was assigned to the 2nd Cavalry out of Fort Riley, Kansas and continued to support his family.
