Gertrude Cannon Ross Beam, 93, Broken Bow, Oklahoma, died Friday at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, Idabel, Oklahoma.

She was born March 9, 1916 in Antimony City, Arkansas, to William Oscar and Lelah Patton Cannon.

Gertrude was a member of First Baptist Church of Broken Bow where she was a former pianist. She enjoyed crochet, dominoes, getting together with friends, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Lelah Cannon; first husband, Kelsie Ross; second husband, Arley Beam; one brother, Loil Cannon; one sister, Elawea Brock and one son, William Nelson Ross.

She was survived by two daughters, Soundra Kay Ross Millican, and Marsha Gail Ross Bell and husband, Tommy; one sister, Wilena Angelo and husband, Jerry; eight grandchildren, Gina Rochelle Ross Goss, Steven Ray Ross, Kathy Lynn Miller Thompson, Ken Miller, Kelly Miller Wilson, Jason Millican, Chris Michael Bell and Karen Janene Bell Brown; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and friends.

Funeral Services were at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at First Baptist Church, Broken Bow. Brother Clark Wrather officiated and grandson Chris Bell assisted. Interment was in Crown Hill Cemetery, Broken Bow.

Girl Cagers Play at Ashdown

The girls basketball team, with their coach, Mrs. M.N. Crockett, returned late Saturday night from the district tournament held at Ashdown Friday and Saturday. They won two games and lost two. Those who composed the team are Louise Ross, Audrey Roden, Lenora Capps and sister, Gertrude Cannon, Iva Branson, Arlie Helms and Irene Holman.
