When the Civil War erupted, her husband and brothers all joined the Confederate forces. James Morgan Wyatt was captured in 1862 and imprisoned in Alton, Illinois, where he remained until the War ended. Believing him to be dead, Mary remarried to William Henry Richard Easter and had another child. When Wyatt returned to Cass County, he decided not to interrupt Mary's new life, and after visiting with his son, Charles, he headed toward Texas. Charles E. Wyatt eventually joined him there about 1876.
Mary and William Easter went on to have a large family, staying in the Cass and Johnson County area, where she died in Camp Branch in 1897 and was buried in Staley Mound Cemetery, but her grave is no longer marked.
